Virtual Legal Awareness Program on Consumer Rights : Law students taking lead in NILS Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Chapter of Network for International Law Students (NILS-BD), as a part of its contribution towards social services has successfully organized a Virtual Legal Awareness Program On “Buyer Beware: Consumers’ Rights and Food Safety Law” on May 24, 2021.
The noteworthy objective of this program was to create awareness concerning rights and remedies of consumers through development of a legal education module, with a special emphasis on Consumer Rights Law, Food Safety Law, Consumer Rights and the Roles of CAB.
The program was open for students of all universities. Almost 100 participants registered in the program from different universities and disciplines from whole Bangladesh.
Due to the pandemic situation, the legal awareness program was held online. It included different practical activities like engagement sessions, ice-breaking session, open question answer session, quiz contest & Verbal Mentionable Awards.
The speakers emphasized on awarding the participants regarding their consumer rights and the ways to seek remedy when the rights are violated.
The entire program was conducted by prominent and professional experts who are currently working with Consumer Rights and Food Safety Laws in Bangladesh. Distinguished panelists included -Saeed Ahsan Khalid, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law, University of Chittagong, Abu Salem Mohammad Noman, Joint District and Sessions Judge, Chattogram and SM Nazer Hossain, Vice- President, Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB), Dhaka. Mr. Saeed Ahsan Khalid spoke on the topic ‘Consumer Rights Law’, Mr. Abu Salem Mohammad Noman discussed regarding ‘Food Safety : Law and the Court Practice’ and Mr. SM Nazer Hossain converesd about ‘Consumer Rights and the Role of CAB’.
The program was about 3 hours 30 minutes which ended by a closing ceremony. The welcome speech of closing ceremony was given by Lutfunnahar Shancyi, President, NILS Bangladesh. The program ended with the closing speech of Nasrin Sultana, Founder Trustee & Founding President, NILS Bangladesh.
The whole event was anchored by Waidatul Akmam Tasin, Associate Vice-President (Events) and Mehnaj Binthe Amin, Editorial Assistant, NILS Bangladesh.
