Deterioration of Law and Order and Ways to Overcome It

Md. Juwel Azad : More than 605 people have been killed in the 100 days of the government’s rule. There are also many cases of child and women rape and violence against them. We have to hear news of public killings on the streets every day. This is what was revealed in the report of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB). The idea is to shed light on the steps that the government should take to increase security and the issues that ordinary citizens expect the government to address.

Political Role

Create a political and social circle or alliance at the grassroots union or ward level, and make sure the political culture is free from violence and hatred, with the alliance based on political parties including Awami League, BNP, and others. To increase the activities of the community police. Withdraw false cases against Awami League leaders and activists and allow them to participate in social roles as before.

Government’s Role

To create a democratic environment for the participation of all political parties by eliminating unnecessary political divisions. To withdraw the ban on the Awami League. To determine the fundamental difference between the ruling party and the government—that is, to avoid a situation where “you are what I am and I am what you are.” To take prompt action against the immoral activities of party workers with the support of the government.

To keep the judiciary independent in the rule of law and justice, and keeping the police force responsible for security under the executive branch 100% neutral and giving it freedom in its work. Making government service institutions public-friendly and 100% corruption-free. Appointing impartial, honest, and talented people free from party influence in major projects and making project management and all financial activities transparent and corruption-free within the digitalized system. And creating a business-friendly environment and providing adequate opportunities for businessmen; the picture will be different if this works.

Role of the Police

The killing of the police and common people during July-August should not be seen as a meritorious act, but rather as a crime. At any time, these criminals, who killed the police and looted weapons, should be brought to justice under the law. The socially neutral organizations should take various initiatives and cooperate with them to increase the confidence and dignity of the police in all police stations and outposts.

As I said earlier, increase the activities of the community police. Conduct an initial inquiry upon receipt of any complaint. Take action if the incident is found to be true, and if it is not true, record it and keep the information on the office file and inform the complainant of the results of both. Don’t be shy to seek legal assistance from the prosecution lawyer if necessary in the ongoing investigation.

Forming an Anti-Crime Detection Unit

The Anti-Crime Detection Unit, combining a special team of the police, the police intelligence team, smart and intelligent officers of the military, lawyers, technology experts, and some psychiatrists, can be formed at the district and upazila level by the Government, and a security cell can be created with a minimum of manpower. The entire city and upazila can be brought under the control of CCTV cameras in this system. The need is to take the help of modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

Money in the Budget

In the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, an allocation of Tk 31,099 crore has been proposed for the Ministry of Home Affairs. Which is 2.28 percent of the total GDP. This low budget must be used optimally to ensure the internal security of about 180 million people.

Even after taking various steps, in many cases, it will be seen that there will be a lot of degradation in the ethics and morals of the people. In that case, there should be an increase in social and family discipline, as well as a system of religious discipline. Above all, there should be 100% patriotism towards Bangladesh. With the attitude of giving the maximum for the country, one should cooperate with the development work of the country with one’s own beneficial talent. No political identity is important in building the country.
