Don’t say ya ya ya, this is not a coffee shop: Chief Justice of India
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Monday schooled a lawyer appearing in the Supreme Court over the choice of words during the hearing. CJI Chandrachud asked the person to use ‘yes’ instead of informal ‘yeah’ saying that he was a “little allergic” to people saying to the expression. He reminded the lawyer that he was in the court room and not a coffee shop.
The lawyer, schooled by Chandrachud for his informal expression, had filed a petition seeking an in-house inquiry against former CJI Ranjan Gogoi. As Chandrachud asked, “How can you file a PIL with a judge as a respondent,” the lawyer said, “Yeah, yeah the then CJI Ranjan Gogoi… I was asked to file a curative.”
Cutting the lawyer short when he began his arguments
and intervening , CJI Chandrachud said, “Don’t say Ya Ya Ya. Say Yes. This is not a Coffee Shop. This is a Court. I am a little allergic to people saying Ya.”
“Justice Gogoi was a former judge of this court. You cannot file a plea like this against a judge and seek an in-house inquiry because you did not succeed before the bench,” the CJI Chandrachud said.

Multiple key hearings are scheduled before the Supreme Court today. The Apex Court will hear several petitions on Monday regarding the controversy surrounding the alleged use of animal fat in the renowned Tirupati laddus.
The issue erupted after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu claimed that animal fat had been used in the laddus distributed as ‘prasad’ at the Sri Venkateswara Temple during the previous YSR Congress administration, led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, a claim refuted by Reddy.
Petitions have been filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy and YV Subba Reddy, a Rajya Sabha MP from the YSR Congress Party and former chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), both demanding a court-monitored investigation.
Further, the Supreme Court will also hear the suo motu case regarding the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata last month. A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra will hear the matter in the second half starting from 2 pm. The hearing was scheduled for September 27 but was later postponed on Monday.
